Cupcake, Doughnut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich. If this weren’t Pocketnow you might think I was trying to figure out what to have for dessert, but you’re a smart cookie and you know I’m talking about the different versions of the Android operating system. (Are you hungry? I’m hungry now.)
Other than finding out what the next confection is going to be made into a statue and placed on the lawn in front of Google’s HQ, do people really care what version of the OS they’re running on their phones?
I do. I want to run the latest and greatest on everything. I’m so “cutting edge” that I’m the one holding the knife! But I’m not normal. I know, you guys have been telling me that in the comments for years now!
So what about “normal” people, the “Average Joe” (pun intended)? Does he care what version of Android is powering his smartphone and tablet? I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, emphatically: No.
Ice Cream Sandwich! We’ve got Ice Cream Sandwich here! See? Nobody cares.
What?! How can that be? I submit that the average user is perfectly happy with what they have as long as it does what they want it to, does it quickly enough, and doesn’t break.
Based on the very un-scientific study that I conducted, consisting of three people I know and work with, these “average people” were actually upset and frustrated when their phones got OTA updates to the latest version of the OS. They were used to the way things used to work and didn’t like the change.
What about you? Do you care? Do you consider yourself an “Average Joe”? Or are you “abnormal”, like me? Let us know in the comments!
