Back at the start of December, Cyanogen posted a message detailing some of what we can expect for the eventual release of CyanogenMod 9. Among the features promised were a new media player, new file manager, and new launcher. The official release of CM9 may still be a few weeks away, but that launcher has already arrived, for current Ice Cream Sandwich users interested in checking it out.
Trebuchet, as it’s called, is an alternate launcher compatible with Android 4.0.3. While it’s still a work-in-progress, it’s already made some serious headway. The launcher supports resizable widgets, separation of apps and widgets in your drawer, multiple sort modes, and options letting you set screen rotation preferences, search bar configuration, and scroll-indicator settings.
Features planned for future builds of Trebuchet include backup and restore options, along with infinite scrolling support and new visual effects.
Besides a phone running Android 4.0.3 (or later, when it’s available), you’ll need root access to install Trebuchet.
