Earlier this month, we learned that Cricket would be adding a new Android to its lineup of smartphones, the Samsung Vitality. While the Vitality became the second Android announced for the carrier, Cricket’s wasting no time in continuing to grow its selection of smartphones, today launching the ZTE Score.
The Vitality is certainly no powerhouse, and the ZTE Score represents an even lower-end hardware tier. It’s powered by a 600MHz processor, and has a 3.2-inch HVGA screen and 3.2-megapixel camera. The important thing for Cricket is that these seemingly out-of-date specs let it offer the ZTE Score for a scant $130 (the Vitality is priced at $200). Like the Vitality, the Score will arrive with Gingerbread and allow its users to access Cricket’s Muve Music service.
Beyond just adding new smartphones to its collection, Cricket is stepping-up its game by making a push to increase its retail presence. When the Score is released on September 25, you’ll be able to find it for sale in Best Buy stores. Additional retailers like Walmart are set to also begin carrying Cricket phones in the coming months. The carrier definitely needs some time for its assortment of smartphones to mature, but it’s making steps in the right direction, and wider availability of its hardware will be a boon for users looking for month-to-month service.
