Cram More Icons on Your Home Screen

Most Android’s have screens that fit 4 icons across and 4 icons high, for a total of 16 by my math. Multiply this by seven home screens and you’ve got… let’s see, carry the one… a whole bunch of icons!

But let’s say you want to have just a few more icons on one of those home screens. With the Multicon widget you can!

Simply install the widget from the Android Market (it’s free), tap and hold on your home screen, choose widgets, and pick Multicon from the list.

You’ll get a 1×1 widget on your screen with 4 small icons that you when tapped for the first time will let you pick an app to launch on subsequent taps. What’s more, you’re not limited to just one widget, you can add up to 16 1×1 widgets on a standard-sized screen, each with 4 shortcuts inside it. That’s 64 links per home screen, or 448 spread across all 7 screens. And it you’re running LauncherPro which let’s you squeeze a fifth row of icons across your screens… well, let’s just say you’ll have a hard time downloading that many apps!

Of course that’s not what this app is all about. Your main home screen is where you’ll spend most of your time, and fitting another few icons on that screen could save you quite a bit of time.

Multicon is free from the Android Market.
