Crackle released its iPhone app two months ago, offering free ad-supported movie and TV streaming. Now the company is expanding its user base to Android owners, publishing its app to the Android Market today.
Just like with the iPhone app, the selection of what films and programs are available to watch is a bit limited. You’ll find a smattering of episodes for television shows, but don’t expect full multi-season runs to be available. Likewise, the movies on Crackle may not be this year’s blockbusters, but there are still plenty of quality titles available. Honestly, who doesn’t want to watch Ghostbusters for the fifteenth time? This selection should only get better in time, with Crackle promising to add twenty new movies and TV episodes each month.
In order to check out Crackle, you’ll need one of the supported Androids (list available at the Android market) running Froyo or better and with Adobe Flash installed. While there are geographical restrictions, at least they’re not just US-only, supporting users in the US, Canada, UK and Australia. The video can be a little stuttery on slower Androids, but that’s to be expected from Flash. Check it out now in the Android Market.
