Amazon broke into the Android hardware game with its Kindle Fire tablet, and ever since the popular slate arrived, we’ve wondered what Amazon might be planning for its follow-up effort. There have been plenty of rumors trying to nail-down just what changes to the original seven-inch tablet we might see, as well as suggesting the possibility that Amazon might try its hand at producing a Fire with an even larger display. The latest rumor to address the issue says there will be not one, not two, but three new Kindle Fire tablets making their way out later this year.
Right now, the seven-inch Fire has a 1024 x 600 display. Supposedly, Amazon is planning to introduce two new seven-inch models. One would keep the original resolution, and presumably feature a small spec bump to distinguish it from the first Fire. The other would get a resolution bump up to 1280 x 800 display, and likely go with some higher-end hardware to match.
The top-of-the-line Kindle Fire would reportedly be an 8.9-inch edition, again pushing up the screen resolution, this time to 1920 x 1200.
The reports describing these three tablets are sourced to Taiwanese suppliers, which Amazon has supposedly contracted for production. We haven’t heard any guesses about what these new Fires might cost, but if the first was any indication, Amazon is likely to be aiming low.
