It wasn’t long ago that Google announced they would be getting into the Home Automation scene with Android @ Home. Although it’s only been a few months since that announcement, we haven’t seen many (any?) Google @ Home devices or systems come to market (if you know of some, please let us know in the comments!).
If you can’t wait to be able to control your home from your Android-powered smartphone, you’re in luck! There are a few (non-Google)solutions available today!
QW Home Automation
QW Home Automation is a automation solution that ties in with Insteon based lighting controllers (dimmers, switches, remotes, lamp modules etc) and even Venstar smart-thermostats.
Since Insteon is one of the more popular do-it-yourself home automation solutions, this home-server-based setup might be just what you’re looking for!
Lutron
If you already have a Lutron RadioRA 2 or HomeWorks QS lighting control system in your home, the Lutron Home Control app might be more your style. This solution even gives you the ability to control your window shades from your phone!
Alarm.com
The Alarm.com system is the muscle behind many home security systems. These systems, however, go well beyond simple home alarms. They can monitor smart appliances, control lighting, lock and unlock doors, monitor cameras and other security sensors, control your thermostats, and much more!
If you’re lucky enough to have one of these systems already, all it takes is installing this app, hooking it up to your account, and you’re all set!
Do you have a home-automation system setup at your house? Have you connected it to your Android? If so, what solution did you go with? What have been your experiences so far? Do you have suggestions or words of wisdom for your fellow Android-users? Let us know in the comments!
