In the Android world, Casio’s ruggedized G’zOne Commando is practically an old man, released last spring. While it may not be one of the most popular Android models, it continues to see a good deal of support, including a software update arriving last month. Just a little more than a month later, now there are signs of a new version of the G’zOne Commando software ready to go out, and it will bring with it some unexpected surprises, like the addition of new push-to-talk support.

PTT is clearly the most substantial addition coming in this update, bringing phone system software up to version C771M100. Getting it working is a little more complicated than installing your average Android update, as you’ll need to make a slight modification to your Verizon account in order to activate PTT service; don’t worry, though, as it won’t cost you anything extra.

Beyond that, there’s still a decent assortment of changes, including updates to some of Google’s and Verizon’s apps. You probably won’t even notice they’re there, but patches delivering some beefed-up security and a few minor bugfixes are stowing-along as well. Others changes will be more obvious, like the restored notification LED functionality.

As Verizon is wont to do, it has updated its support page for the G’zOne Commando in advance of the update arriving; with any luck, it should be here in anywhere from a few days to a week.
