Samsung’s Galaxy S II on AT&T is set to receive a small maintenance update. Reports have the update containing an assortment of small bugfixes, including more accurate battery life indication, updates to the lock screen, and some performance related improvements – all pretty much standards for a smaller Android update. This would be the end of our story here, except for the fact that something seems to be going altogether wrong with the update’s distribution.

Shortly after owners of the Skyrocket started downloading and attempting to install their updates, news started surfacing of widespread update failures. No apparent rhyme or reason has been uncovered for why so many updates are failing. After numerous attempts, though, some users have successfully installed the Android 2.3.6 update, bringing their phones up to build UCLA3.

It’s not like we’re talking about something eagerly-awaited, like an Ice Cream Sandwich update, here, so it’s not the end of the world that this update is failing, but it’s curious all the same. We haven’t heard anything yet from Samsung or AT&T regarding the situation, but given the sheer number of users running into trouble, someone’s going to have to do something soon.
