Over 700,000 Android devices are being activated daily. This is the most recent number that we had before Christmas from Andy Rubin himself where he also explained that “activation” “means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service”.

Localytics published a research “summarizing new iOS and Android device activations over the Christmas holiday”. Combined Android and iOS growth of up to 350% and even beyond was recorded for some regions like the U.K. while Australia, France, Canada and the U.S. all saw an increase of more than 200%.

If you were wondering how much Android takes up from all of that, Andy Rubin comes to the rescue. Same man as above, different numbers though! If 700,000 would be your average activation count per day, the 24th and 25th of December saw 3.7 million Android devices being activated. That’s five times the average number. There’s no doubt many Androids found new owners this Christmas but, just for the sake of comparison, would be nice to see some official numbers regarding Apple iPhones and Windows Phones too.
