Obvious questions and double-takes aside, Aircell is reportedly releasing the first smartphone designed for use in their air by both cabin personnel — including pilots.
Although we don’t know what version, the phone will run Android, and will simply be called “Smartphone”. Other than the target users, what makes this phone stand out is its candybar form factor and “physical” dial pad.
With availability scheduled for “late 2011”, the “Smartphone” will not only integrate with pre-existing Aircell systems, it’s also compatible with Aircell Axxess flush-mount communications systems.
Pricing has not been announced.
