Google has just confirmed that the next version of Android will indeed be called Ice Cream Sandwich, and it will be a unified platform suitable for all devices from phones to tablets. The announcement was made at today’s Google I/O keynote at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. The new platform, set for a fourth quarter debut, promises a “state of the art UI,” “advanced app framework,” and redoubled commitment to open source. As far as the interface goes, we’re being promised holographic elements as well as head- and face-tracking, with the display adjusting automatically based on perspective.
More details should be forthcoming as the conference progresses.
