We’re still not 100% clear on Amazon’s intentions of launching their own Android app store. In theory, having an app store would allow Amazon to couple device sales from their ever-expanding Amazon Wireless store with apps. They could also use their recommendation engine to help drive sales of more apps.
A new blog post from Amazon goes on to explain how they’ll roll application purchases for Android devices into their website. First, app store results will be added to search results when you look for something on Amazon. Second, app recommendations will be featured on the front page of the site, and will be tailored to your previous purchases. Third, when you view an application on the website, you’ll see the “What do Customers Buy After Viewing this Item?” widget which will help guide you further. Finally, Amazon will let you purchase apps even if you don’t have a device, which would let them sell you a Droid X and a $19 best-seller app pack all in one transaction.
