Yesterday, we gave you the first look at what we expect to be HTC’s debut quad-core Android smartphone, the HTC Edge. The hardware specs we had available painted the picture of a high-end powerhouse. Today, further rumored details of the phone’s construction emerge.

We told you that the Edge would have a 4.7-inch display in a high-definition 720p resolution. BGR has learned some additional details on the Edge’s display tech, like that it will an S-LCD 2 component. We’re intimately familiar with S-LCD screens, as HTC is a big fan, and are curious just what enhancements S-LCD 2 will bring. The presence of optical lamination is also mentioned; this treatment could be used for any one of several ends, including glare reduction similar to the “invisible glass” we recently looked into.

If our report of the Edge measuring over ten-millimeters thick had you concerned, check out the slightly-tapered design of the phone. While things look thickest up top, BGR’s source reports the phone’s overall thickness is more like 8.8 millimeters, with a unibody design. We had already told you about the Edge’s eight-megapixel main camera, but what about a front-facer? Supposedly, it will be capable of recording 720p video; quite the step up from VGA-resolution components.
