Verizon PopData gives users unlimited data for up to an hour at a time

You don’t need unlimited data plans. At least, that’s what Verizon says.

But you can have all the data you can use while not having it count toward your data bucket for the month for up to an hour with Verizon’s new account feature called “PopData.”

PopData lets you have 30- or 60-minute unlimited data sessions at a time on your cellular connection for $2 or $3, respectively. The feature needs push notifications and location-based services active because only a certain number of PopData sessions can be activated within an area. Network traffic and signal strength also plays into the metrics of whether or not you can get a PopData session on at the moment.

You can purchase each session on your My Verizon app by getting into your Data Meter, then tapping “Get More Data”. The PopData option will be grayed out if it’s not available at the moment. If you do get a session, you must use it within five minutes of purchase. (Edit: An LTE connection is required to start a session.)
