Department of Transportation: no Galaxy Note 7 on planes

From LAX to LGA, ANC (Anchorage, Alaska) to ZZV (Zanesville, Ohio), you won’t be able to go past security with your Galaxy Note 7 starting tomorrow at noon Eastern.

The Department of Transportation has banned the phone from commercial and shipping flights originating to, from or within the United States. The move follows the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s extension of the initial recall on the Galaxy Note 7 due to battery explosion concerns — owners of any unit must take them back to their point of sales. Samsung has apologized for the resulting debacle and also stopped production of the device.

Packing a Note 7 in checked baggage may result in criminal prosecution as well as fines.
