Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones could kick off pre-orders on October 4, sales on October 20

Still salty about Google’s rumored decision to axe the Nexus brand, and unveil Pixel-labeled N6P and 5X successors of sorts nearly one full month after today’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus announcement?

With Galaxy Note 7 explosion scandals far from over, the LG V20 unlikely to start shipping very soon, and the Marlin and Sailfish now expected to pull off stellar turnaround times, it looks like there’s nothing to worry, as everything may go Big G’s way at the end of the day.

While we previously heard whispers of relatively swift launches, Ausdroid finally goes into detail, at least as far as 5-inch Pixel and 5.5-inch Pixel XL Australian timelines are concerned. Even more specifically, release dates on local operator Telstra, which might earn exclusivity rights around those parts over one or both devices.

Telstra apparently plans to begin taking pre-orders on the same day the Pixel and Pixel XL will break cover, i.e. October 4, fulfilling them a little over two weeks later, on October 20. Obviously, global direct-from-Google sales should be underway then as well, or perhaps earlier than the 20th, limiting Apple’s retail advantage to 30 days, give or take.

But is the search giant thinking of investing more marketing resources into own-brand phones than ever before to start with? Well, Telstra is, reportedly treating Pixels “as seriously as an iPhone launch”, with the “whole 9 yards” in terms of hype.
