One day after Apple reported better-than-expected earnings, CEO Tim Cook held up a symbolic iPhone. The reference was huge. It was the billionth iPhone sold.

The billionth iPhone was actually checked out sometime last week, the company gathers. But Cook played up the moment at an employee meeting today.

“We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference,” the executive said. “Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day.”

Infinite Loop made hundreds of billions of dollars over nearly a decade of the iPhone. And it has objectively influenced how the world interacts with technology through it.
