Nexus 9 said to receive Android Nougat in Canada ‘soon’, because duh
The largest wireless service provider up north assumes Captain Obvious duties today, listing the HTC/Google Nexus 9 among its devices slated for important software updates in the near future.
This would of course be considered a huge deal by hardcore Android purists… if only Rogers Canada dared to zero in on a precise 7.0 Nougat deadline. Instead, we’re merely offered a decidedly vague and meaningless “coming soon” timeframe under “expected availability”, which was logical to anticipate ever since spring.
It’s become a tradition for Big G to roll out new OS iterations to recent and semi-recent Nexus products once a year, in the fall, and this September or October, we’re pretty certain at least the N9, 6P, 5X and original 6 are up for nutty-flavored UI makeovers. Hopefully, the first-gen Nexus 5, too.
But perhaps we’re selling Rogers a little short here, and the carrier actually knows something we can barely afford to dream at the moment. What if the HTC “Marlin” and “Sailfish” will swim up to shore next month, accompanied by the very first commercial build of Android 7.0 Nougat, and a handful of refreshingly early updates? Wouldn’t that be something?
