Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) is official with respectable specs, Smart Glow alerts

While typically we’d pay little attention to yet another familiar, somewhat premature entry into the low-end Galaxy J smartphone series, Samsung actually has something new and different featured on the J2 (2016).

Something even the super-premium Note 7 or GS8 could pick up to enable color-coded LED notifications. The technology is dubbed Smart Glow, and at least on the Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 edition, it lets you set Priority and Usage Alerts, as well as assisting you in snapping the best possible selfies… with the 8MP rear camera.

True innovation or gimmick? Maybe a bit of both for the time being, the glowing battery, data and storage warnings sounding quite practical, while the rest… not so much.

Quietly unveiled in India several days earlier than expected, the Galaxy J2 (6) notably upgrades everything about its fall 2015-released predecessor, with a chrome bezel, patterned back, matte finish and slimmer profile as design highlights, faster 1.5GHz quad-core processor with Turbo Speed Technology, 1.5GB RAM, a 2,600 mAh battery, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The larger 5-inch sAMOLED display is also a sharper HD affair, yet rumor has it you’ll only be asked to pay the equivalent of $145 (Rs. 9,750) for the world’s first Smart Glow-touting phone starting next week.
