Research firm foresees 5.5-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 with 4K UHD screen

Can we all agree resolution beyond the Quad HD pixel count on a display smaller than 6 or even 7 inches is overkill, as the human eye will never be able to perceive any difference between 2,560 x 1,440 and 3,840 x 2,160 content?

Apparently not, with Sony back on the Full HD bandwagon after a short incursion on Ultra HD quicksand, but Samsung purportedly intent on taking the Galaxy S8 to the next level, mainly for high-quality VR-supporting purposes.

Mind you, we’re talking the distant Galaxy S8 here, not the fast-approaching Note 6 or Note 7, so a nice dose of skepticism is advised. UBI Research, however, a market-leading Korean research firm specializing in OLED reports, feels fairly confident the 5.5-inch 4K panel showcased a while back will help the GS8 shine next spring, even alongside the more flamboyant foldable Galaxy X.

There’s no hard evidence to accompany the conjecture, and both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift work just fine with much lower-res 2,160 x 1,200 OLED screens. Ergo, let’s not bet the farm yet on the “next big thing” (after the QHD Note 7) sporting 3,840 x 2,160 pixels for a mind-blowing, potentially gimmicky 806 ppi density.
