Google Fiber Phone rolling out to go beyond the home

If you’re taking calls exclusively on your mobile phone these days, why would you deign to have a home phone again? You cut that cable, might as well cut another. Well, we can’t exactly think of a good reason, but for only $10 a month, the Google Fiber program will get you some service.

With Fiber Phone, you can screen calls, setup do-not-disturb periods and engage the spam filter on your new home phone (not included). The VoIP service can also forward calls to your mobile phone and transcribe voicemails into texts or emails just for you.

If you’re in one of the Fiber markets, you’ll have to bide your time switching over as Fiber Phone spreads, but you can sign-up to get first notice for when it comes on a Google Form.

Maybe this is the Google Voice that we deserved.
