Google Photos learns to automatically create albums from your travel pics

This month has already seen Google hard at work to make Photos as rich an experience as it can be, with the company delivering a new look for its Android app, some new features to the Photos web interface, and an updated iOS release with support for Split View and Live Photos. As if all that wasn’t enough, today Google announces the latest enhancement to Photos, giving the service the ability to intelligently create albums based around events or trips.

Google Photos will start looking through your recent photos and videos to recognize when you took a trip or attended an event, and will automatically put together a new album highlighting the experience.

Photos will use location data to help group that media together to illustrate the stages of your journey, accompanying them with useful maps to remind you just where all these memories took place, and the path you took to get there.

Users can enhance Google’s automated work by adding their own captions, helping to further flesh out these albums. Then when you’ve got everything looking just the way you’d like it, you’re ready to share the completed albums with friends and family.

Look for this new functionality to start going live today on both Android and iOS Google Photos apps, as well as on the web.
