Windows 10 Mobile updates are here: upgrade your Lumia to Microsoft’s latest platform
All week long, we’ve been talking about Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile updates for the company’s fleet of existing Windows Phone 8.1 handsets, as rumors suggested that the day when the first of these updates would start heading out to the public was nearly upon us. And while early confirmation never came, the rumors continued their reprise: Windows 10 Mobile updates would land this Friday. Now the day’s finally upon us, and we can finally put all those rumors to rest as Microsoft confirms the start of Windows 10 Mobile updates.
Just as we heard it would be, the update process is a manual procedure, with users being instructed to install the Upgrade Advisor app first in order to determine whether or not an update’s available.
Microsoft also makes it clear that just because a phone has a Windows 10 Mobile build available for it as part as the company’s Insider testing program doesn’t mean that it will get a publicly released update like this; the company says that “many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience,” so it’s leaving them on WP8.1 (for now, at least).
The full list of phones officially able to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile is as follows: the Lumia 1520, Lumia 930, Lumia 640, Lumia 640XL, Lumia 730, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1GB), Lumia 636 (1GB), Lumia 638 (1GB), Lumia 430, and Lumia 435, as well as the BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and MCJ Madosma Q501.
And while updates are confirmed for all those models, there’s no guarantee that all those releases are available as of today – but they should be here soon.
How many of you Insider-testing-hold-outs are ready to get your first taste of Windows 10 Mobile?
