First-time Samsung Pay perk with a Galaxy S7, S7 edge is kinda okay

Anyone can use Samsung Pay on their new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge phones. Even those who subscribe to a network that obfuscates what’s supposed to be a baked-in feature. But for first-time users, you may want to travel back into the past for a better incentive.

Still, a $30 gift card ain’t too bad. If you’re signed up and have had your first purchase from now to March 31, you’ll get a notification that will tell you to select where that $30 will go to:

  • Regal Cinemas
  • Nike Store
  • eBay
  • Whole Foods Market
  • Best Buy

Private label cards as well as debit cards on Bank of America are excluded from the offer.

And hey, maybe the perks are toning down a bit since Samsung had more bombastic pushes for its mobile payment system with the Galaxy S6 family of devices last year. A $50 rebateA $200 rebate? Wireless headphonesA wireless charger? Sure, why not!

Why not? It’s 2016 and we’re talking about something users should’ve hopped on board of in 2015. That may be how the marketing budget goes.
