HTC Vive pre-orders are live – so which VR headset are you buying? (Poll)
A little over an hour ago, at 10am Eastern, HTC opened its doors for pre-orders of the Vive virtual reality headset. With a head-mounted display, wall trackers, and a pair of wireless controllers, Vive’s hoping to give users one of the most well-rounded VR experiences they can come by – but it’s not alone. Last month, Oculus Rift got its own pre-order party going, offering a slightly more affordable take on home VR. And while it’s not quite up to the same consumer-ready stage, Microsoft’s opening a new chapter for HoloLens as it begins courting developers with its own pre-orders.
All that adds up to giving users a lot of choices when it comes to how they plug in to the new VR craze. No matter which hardware you go with, you’re going to be paying a lot of money, but we’re lucky enough to see a nice spread of options, with slightly better-equipped VR packages available for users willing to make the larger investment.
That leaves a lot of us with a difficult decision to make: where do we spend our VR dollar?
Do you keep things relatively conservative, and go with the $600 Oculus Rift – maybe testing the VR waters? Or do you figure if you’re already spending this kind of money, you might as well go all-in and sink the $800 on an HTC Vive?
Is console gaming more your thing, and you’re waiting until next month when we hope to learn more about Sony’s plans for sales of its PlayStation VR? Maybe you fancy yourself a software dev, and you’re willing to make Microsoft’s big $3000 commitment to HoloLens.
Wherever you see yourself on the VR-consumer spectrum, we want to hear from you. So do us a favor, if you would and let us know in the poll below what (if any of this hardware) you plan to pick up. Will you get in on the ground floor of VR, or are you going to let this one pass you by?
