Not interested in the Gear VR? Score a free Gear S2 instead with Verizon Galaxy S7 pre-orders
Samsung’s “next big thing” isn’t even out yet, and retail partners are already this close to giving the new phone away for free to convince you to do business with them. Well, not exactly, but we’re getting there.
For starters, no matter where you pre-order your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge from, you’re eligible for a complimentary Gear VR headset, plus a 6-game Oculus virtual reality bundle. Total savings – $150. In addition to that, Target throws in a gratis $100 gift card, T-Mobile offers a 12-month Netflix subscription, and Sprint covers half the cost of a second S7 you might be interested in.
It seemed impossible a traditionally thrifty carrier like Verizon could better any of those deals, yet it turns out Big Red lets you choose between a Gear VR and Gear S2 when you purchase a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge on device payment plans online.
We obviously recommend you go for the Tizen-powered, Android-compatible circular smartwatch, typically priced at $300 with 24-month VZW pacts, or $350 outright. The fine print and strings prospectively attached to the promo remain unclear, though one thing’s for sure – you’re in for a long wait. Until March 11 or so to receive your Samsung Galaxy S7, then an additional 4 to 6 weeks for the intelligent timepiece.
Just remember to shop on vzw.com, as physical stores can only hook you with the free Gear VR and a $100 discount applied towards an on-contract Gear S2. Amazingly, you can still also receive up to $650 for network switches, and $300 with trade-ins of old but working smartphones.
