Sony Xperia X & X Performance hands-on: meet Sony’s new phone family (Video)
No Xperia Z6? No problem. Although we weren’t holding out hope that Sony would bring the next entry in its flagship lineup to MWC this year, we also didn’t have a great sense for what we would be getting going in to the expo. Then right at the last minute, some leaks had it looking increasingly likely that there’d be new phones on the agenda, and earlier today Sony proved those suspicions correct, launching the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia XA. Now we’re bringing you our first hands-on look with this new hardware, as we check out both the Xperia X and the holy-crap-is-that-really-supposed-to-be-a-mid-ranger Xperia X Performance.
Well, that bit’s trick, and though Sony referred to the X Performance as a “super premium mid-ranger,” that Snapdragon 820 under the hood is pretty unambiguously a flagship-class SoC. Don’t get us wrong: the Xperia X is no slouch, either, and its Snapdragon 650 should be plenty sufficient for many users’ needs.
Both phones have a premium metal look, brand new camera components, and some battery-friendly tweaks. Watch on to get the rest of our first impressions from Sony’s latest:
