Have you come around to the Google Inbox way of managing email? While the flagship Gmail brand is still the feather in Google’s cap, Inbox has emerged as an alternative, and dare we say smarter way to cut through the chaff and really get to important data living in your email. In recent updates we’ve seen Google continue to improve Inbox with features like convenient composition widgets and a semi-automated Smart Reply mode, and now Google’s sharing word of some more, aimed at making the app’s search features as useful as possible.
When you run an Inbox search that’s clearly trying to pull up one specific piece of data – say, shipping info for a recently ordered package, or confirmation of that hotel reservation you just made – Inbox will now grab that result and place it front and center at the top of your search results, contained in its own easy-to-read card.
Chances are, if Inbox is doing its job, the answer you’re looking for will be right there where you want it. But Google concedes that not every tidbit of information hiding in your email is so easy to suss out, and even if that top result doesn’t nail your query, you’ll be able to check out a streamlined list of additional search results beyond that first one. Google groups these by date, rather than some other quality score, banking on the idea that more recent messages are going to offer more pertinent information than older ones.
