Unicode 9 set has no dumpling emoji, but adds 74 other emoji

The peach. The eggplant. Okay, nevermind those.

Last time around, it was the taco that made waves in the digital messaging sphere. What can we look forward to as the next big emoji? Not a dumpling one — at least, not anytime soon.

The Unicode Consortium has taken in 74 emoji into its new Unicode 9 standard, set for release in June. While operating system publishers have to deal with coding these little pictograms into the lexicon of the software, it’s up to individual OEMs to actually implement them onto their keyboards. And that can take a bit of time.

Below is the complete list of additions, organized into categories. Potential trigger words are listed in parentheses. You can look at the reference designs for each one at our source link.

Cheers to Oman, by the way.
