Sony testers make their voices heard: Don’t take away our Marshmallow
Android users know all too well the pain of waiting (and waiting, and waiting, and waiting) for the most recent version of the platform to arrive for their phone. Sure, those lucky Nexus owners get their updates straight away, but for the rest of us, we’re subject to both OEM and carrier delays. That’s why it was such great news when in October of last year, Sony invited owners of the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact to get a super-early taste of Android 6.0 Marshmallow through the manufacturer’s “Concept for Android” program. Originally set to wrap up in December, Sony ultimately extended the trial – but how long might that last? We still don’t have a set out-time, but some newly revealed survey data sure makes it crystal clear that participants are in no hurry to see things end.
Right around the time we got news of that extension, Sony distributed a survey among Concept for Android testers, asking how long they might like to remain in the trial program. While a few already had their fill, or were hoping to stick around for a few more weeks (or even months), the vast majority indicated they were in this for the long haul – Sony permitting.
Slightly over 85 percent of participants responded that they’d like to stay involved with Sony’s Concept for Android for as long as they could.
Considering how hard Marshmallow is to come by these days (though things are slowly getting better), we can hardly blame them. Here’s hoping Sony decides to keep this experiment going – and maybe support some additional phones, as well.
