Curious Nokia phone returns for new pics, leaves us with more questions than answers
Early last week we got a glimpse at some new Nokia hardware, an apparent prototype of an in-development handset – but just what the heck was it? After all, the presence of what appeared to be a number pad cast serious doubt on this being a new capital-S smartphone. We’re still not sure exactly what we’re looking at, but at least we’ve come across a new opportunity to do so, as a fresh set of pics leak of this mysterious phone.
Far more than we were able to last time, we’re now able to gauge the handset’s thickness – and it looks substantial. That physical keypad appears to still be in place, and we get a better look at the top-center key there, which looks like it will work as a four-way rocker. This sure screams “feature phone” to our ears, but we’ve got precious little evidence for what software this model might actually run.
It appears this may be a dual-SIM model, and we hear about a possible model number: the Nokia 235. There’s also the chance we’re looking at later-stage hardware this time around, as the phone is devoid of the prototype markings present in that previous leak.
Finally, we’re just a bit curious about the model being used for comparison here; we’ve heard it identified as the Nokia XL, but that doesn’t seem quite right, as the flash and speaker grille aren’t in the right places, and that capacitive “home” button up front has left us scratching our head. We’d love to get to the bottom of all these mysteries, but that’s going to require some additional leaks.
