A researcher at Juniper recently concluded after exploring wearable numbers and trends the smartwatch is “a category waiting for a market”, with visual selling points not yet doubled by a clear, unique use case.
In that context, it definitely feels a little extreme to charge north of $300 for an intelligent timepiece, especially one incapable of making a dent in Apple Watch’s early supremacy. Leave it to Adorama to make you an offer you can’t refuse stateside, selling the Samsung Gear S2 as low as $200 through January 20.
Technically, the camera and film equipment store lists the circular Tizen device at the same 300 bucks as everyone else. But there’s a mail-in rebate of $50 to be had once you score the Gear S2, plus $50 off before you place your order, via coupon code “50OFFJAN”.
The cumulative $100 discount is also good for the leather-clad Gear S2 Classic, typically offered at $350, and marked down by this same retailer to $270 on Black Friday. That’s right, these prices are lower than the ones during the year’s biggest shopping day.
In case you’re wondering, yes, even Amazon and Best Buy continue to ask $300 and $350 of future Gear S2 and S2 Classic owners respectively, no perks in tow, while AT&T is perhaps your top Adorama alternative, as long as signing a two-year pact for a reduction to $100 for the rubber band-decked version isn’t a problem.
