Big bet or hooliganism: an eBay seller lists the HTC Vive at €1,099

The media hype machine has laid its adoration upon HTC and Valve for coming up with a mind-blowing virtual reality experience. But are you ecstatic about it yet? Are you willing to shell out double the price of the Oculus Rift 40 days out from pre-orders? That’s what one eBay seller is hoping you’ll do.

Prospective buyers have up until January 24 at around 5pm Eastern to take a chance at this singular HTC Vive “pre-order.” Price tag? €1,099 or $1,204. For scale, financial firms’ estimates have been circling around the $1,500 threshold.

There’s free shipping, but the buyer pays customs fees and duties and the purchase is non-refundable. Shipping will happen once the seller gets their own Vive shipment(s).

The seller, nicknamed dasatd18, is based out of Catania, Italy, and has been a member since 2005. They have sold 14 items ranging from RAM chips to artwork and have gotten a perfect seller score. We don’t know if the seller has bought their unit or has any forward indication of the price, so we’re left wondering if the €1,099 ends up being a fair price for the device.

Of course, we’re waiting until February 29th for official pre-orders to begin while the shipping timeframe has been set for around start of April. Until then, if you want to have fun playing eBay roulette, with all the pitfalls it offers, you can do so at the source link.

By the way, the entry was originally titled “HTC Lives,” a gaffe that’s both desperate and inspirational.
