ZTE is looking to blend into the background as far as its own brand goes and let its stars shine — it’s somewhat the case with the Axon and Nubia brands already. The latter, by the way, is a full-blown subsidiary of ZTE that wants to expand its label into markets focused on premium handsets at a premium price (and thus, premium margins). Thanks in part to a recent infusion of about $300 million, Nubia shall try.
The brand now has its own international website where it will soon sell its products direct to consumers. The site’s in Chinese, English and Spanish right now with other languages to be added later. On the site right now, Nubia is promoting its Z9, Z9 mini and My Prague handsets.
Devices will be made available to European customers first with other markets later. Co-founder and SVP of Nubia Felix Fu said that there are “at least eight new countries on the horizon.”
