Samsung announces Galaxy TabPro S Windows 10 2-in-1 tablet

We weren’t far from the truth with most of our assessments with the occasion of yesterday’s Samsung Galaxy TabPro S leak. The South Korean manufacturer officially unveiled this Windows 10 2-in-1 tablet, and, as such, has officially brought the “Galaxy” name to the Windows world, instead of going with the “ATIV” moniker we’ve seen in the past.

With a magnesium alloy frame and 6.3 millimetres thickness, the Galaxy TabPro S is very portable, weighing only 693 grams, which makes it a serious competitor for Microsoft’s own Surface Pro 4. What doesn’t, however, is the horsepower, as the Galaxy TabPro S is equipped with the latest generation Intel Core M processor (like the entry-level Surface Pro 4), allowing for a fanless design and build.

4GB of RAM and either 128- or 256GB SSD storage configurations are available, and the screen is a 12-inch Super AMOLED unit with a resolution of 2,160×1,440, which, if history is of any indication, should be one helluva display.

USB Type-C is present for charging the built-in 5,200mAh battery, which can fully charge, according to the press release, in just 2.5 hours, and offers up to 10.5 hours of battery life. Five megapixel cameras for both the front and back will take care of your imaging needs.

A full-sized keyboard cover comes included but a multi-port adapter (HDMI, USB Type A & C) and Bluetooth Pen are available for purchase separately though. Still, the keyboard cover is equipped with NFC, and, upon pairing with a compatible Samsung phone, you can use the phone’s fingerprint scanner to unlock the PC.

While there’s no word on exact pricing and availability, the official wording does mention that the Galaxy TabPro S will be available globally, starting from February 2016.
