Sony Xperia Z6 Lite reportedly in the works with Snapdragon 650 power, 5-inch screen
In case you were still unclear regarding the two “main” models purportedly due to enrich the Sony Xperia smartphone family in 2016, it doesn’t look like the product roster will be simplified or streamlined very soon after all, as a Z6 Lite is coming alongside a standard Z6, Z6 Plus, Z6 Ultra, Z6 Compact and, possibly, a Z6 Mini too.
That would easily exceed this year’s Z-series variety madness, where the Z3+, aka Z4, first entered the picture, followed by a Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium. Of course, none of the above looming handhelds is confirmed right now, and at least the Z6 Ultra and Z6 Mini feel awfully fishy if Plus and Compact configurations are also in the works.
As far as the Sony Xperia Z6 Lite is concerned, today’s the first time we’re hearing of such an odd moniker, though in a way its existence would absolutely make sense if it were indeed priced at under $400. Namely, 2,500 yuan in China, or around $385.
For that money, you’ll obviously get humbler overall specifications than both the prospective Xperia Z6 and Z6 Compact, but on the bright side, a premium build is apparently in the pipeline, metallic rear cover and all.
Besides, a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor, formerly titled 618, wouldn’t be so very bad, slotting the Xperia Z6 Lite directly beneath the SD652-packing Samsung Galaxy A9 on the performance totem pole.
The only other rumored features are 2.5D curved glass and a 5-inch display with unspecified resolution. Would 720p do or is 1,080p the absolute minimum you’re willing to accept, even for less than four Benjamins?
