To hear the story, Microsoft once had a bunch of Windows 10 Mobile Lumia handsets in development, before ultimately canceling its plans for several, and instead bringing us just the Lumia 950, 950 XL, and 550 we got. But in recent weeks a number of those long-rumored Lumias have been popping back on the radar, and especially the Lumia 650 and Lumia 850 have been making strong cases that the stories of their demise might have been a little premature. Earlier this month we had the chance to look at a bunch of renders of the supposed Lumia 850, as well as some real-world pics. Today we add to that growing gallery with the arrival of some fresh renders, revealing Lumia 850 case designs.
The handset’s layout was already pretty clearly established from those existing images, and these new renders don’t change things up too much: we’re still looking at that centered rear camera protrusion with LED flash above, and a rather large-looking hole down at the bottom of the phone’s back, presumably for its speaker.
Maybe the most interesting thing is what we don’t see – namely, any sign of a front-facing flash. While a bit difficult to make out in those hands-on pics, the flash featured prominently in the last batch of 850 renders, and its absence here is confusing.
And while we’re not sure just how many details we should be taking away from these renders (and how much might be unofficial guesswork) they’re consistent in showcasing a cyan color option for the phone. Previous renders have shown the 850 in neutral tones, though with a variety of colored rim options.
