Fragmentation is ergo a non-issue, unlike in Google land, and Microsoft wants to follow a similar tactic, no matter who disapproves.
AT&T did accept Redmond’s conditions for picking up the Lumia 950, and according to an operator representative on Ma Bell’s forums, the non-XL Windows 10 Mobile flagship will continue to receive “WaaS updates” on a monthly basis after a stability-focused 10586.29 makeover on December 8.
WaaS, of course, stands for Windows as a Service, i.e. Microsoft’s new general set of rules regarding the continuous evolution of the OS, its mandatory cumulative enhancements, and at least in theory, lengthier support guarantee.
The downside of system renovations “not certified by AT&T” or any other carriers that might soon back the Lumia 950, 950 XL, 550, as well as their future cousins, sequels and spin-offs, which are “delivered via Microsoft over-the-air”, appears to be a greater risk of bugs at the moment.
