Second-gen Apple Watch tipped to launch in March (maybe alongside iPhone 6C)

Apple first unveiled the Apple Watch well over a year ago, showing off the smartwatch during its September 2014 iPhone 6 launch event. With our appetites sufficiently whetted, we spent the next few months waiting patiently for the chance to finally get our hands on the wearable, before it ultimately arrived in April. But for as well-received as the Apple Watch was, some critics still saw the smartwatch as a work in progress, and looked forward to Apple’s second-gen effort. We’ve been hearing talk about a possible Q2 2016 ETA for such a model, but hadn’t picked up many specifics about those launch plans. Today we start narrowing things down as a new rumor claims that Apple’s prepping for a March launch event

The new Apple Watch is rumored to be the highlight of this Apple event, and while we don’t have anything like individual dates just yet, this report claims that Apple will hold its announcement in March, followed by a start to sales in April.

Sources have gone back and forth over possible hardware improvements for the 2016 Apple Watch, with some ideas including a thinner, lighter construction, the presence of a front-facing camera, and new premium material options.

Beyond the new Apple Watch, there’s also the chance that this March event could be the platform Apple uses to introduce the oft-rumored new four-inch iPhone, believed to arrive as the iPhone 6C. This report makes the phone’s presence sound a bit less certain than the smartwatch’s, though perhaps we’ll learn of firmer plans in the months to come.
