As the conglomerate slinks out of slow, low-margin sales in its mobile division and with a new Galaxy flagship expected to be the phone to kick 2016 off, the personnel force that oversaw Samsung’s U-turn has decided to step out of day-to-day smartphone operations. In order to do that, JK Shin is resigning from the president role of the mobile communications division.

The chaebol’s annual personnel appointments announcement states that Dongjin Koh, formerly leading the research and development team in the division, is now president.

Shin is still head of the entire mobile division and will exclusively focus on long-term vision.
