Ditching the Droid Turbo 2’s Verizon logo is surprisingly easy
We were in New York for the Droid Turbo 2 launch where a short 20-minute press conference took place in which the phone was dropped several times. And the screen didn’t shatter. We discussed what Motorola’s Shatter Shield technique covers in terms of protecting the phone itself during this week’s Pocketnow Weekly podcast.
The screen element is actually made up of two “lens” elements that are not glass, but a clear polycarbonate and acrylic polymer and therefore cannot be shattered. But the material is an easy exhibitor of scratches, so you’ll likely end up with some nasty visuals on your Turbo 2 sooner or later. Fortunately, only the exterior — and not interior — lens will bear the brunt of its user’s abuses over the course of four years, or the period that Motorola’s limited warranty covers the screen. It’s also user replaceable.
Carrier partner Verizon really insists that you know the Droid Turbo 2 as a Verizon-exclusive, as it has branded the exterior lens that comes on the device with its old gradated checkmark logo. If you find that aesthetic objectionable, just replace the exterior lens. The international version of the Droid Turbo 2, the Moto X Force, will likely also have replaceable, blank space exterior lenses for you to pick up. Or, you could live on the wild (and possibly warranty-less) side and go without the exterior lens for a while.
