Siri’s holding back answers to music questions unless you subscribe to Apple Music
Digital assistants like Cortana, Google Now, and Siri are supposed to make accessing the world’s information easier than ever before, right? You need do little more than wonder aloud, “What’s icing made out of?” (the answer’s “deliciousness”) for a synthesized voice to immediately start giving you your answer. At least, that’s the way we expect things to work, but as some Apple users are noticing, Siri appears to be acting a little less helpful than she could be … unless you’re willing to pay up, that is.
Ask Google Now something about popular music charts – say, the number-one song in December, 1989 – and it will quickly crawl through its resources to bring you an answer: in this case, listings from Wikipedia.
But if you ask Siri the same thing, she’ll only give you the answer if you’re an Apple Music subscriber. Despite music charts being readily available online, Apple’s decided that it doesn’t want Siri handing that info out unless you’re a paying Apple Music customer.
You’re still free to look up the answer via a web search yourself – but don’t services like Siri exist expressly so we don’t have to manually do that?
