Facebook notifications adding a bunch of new content
Facebook’s been making some significant changes to its mobile app offerings in recent weeks, both in terms of new stuff like Notify, and changes to existing apps like the arrival of support for a new profile interface. There’s plenty more where all that came from, and today Facebook announces its latest tweak to its mobile apps as it debuts a new look for notifications on both Android and iOS.
Basically, you’re about to start seeing a whole lot more content in Facebook notifications. Beyond the usual stuff like status updates, the app will now flesh out its notifications with news about sports scores, reminders of TV programs you might want to watch, info on upcoming events, and important dates in the lives of your friends: birthdays et al.
Give Facebook access to your phone’s location data, and you get even more options, including weather, restaurant recommendations, local events, and more. You can customize just what sort of data you’ll see (and what you won’t) in app settings.
Right now, these changes appear to be rolling-out server side from Facebook, so while you won’t have to update your app to get them, it may be a few days before everyone gets access. Right now, these enhanced notifications are only confirmed for US users, with no word of when international availability might follow.
