Google Maps update helps you search for nearby places on your route

Let’s face it, there’s always a time when you’re driving asking yourself where the next gas station is. While most of you might genuinely need gas, the most common need ends up in the bathroom. Google has figured that this is such a common trend that it decided to assist you in the process with a new update to Google Maps.

Google Maps just received a new update that improves the navigation feature dramatically. As of today you’ll notice that instead of the microphone button at the top right, what you’ll find is a search icon. This search icon now allows you to search for things along your route, which currently default to gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, and the most important, coffee shops. You also get options to search for more places depending on your needs. This will interrupt your navigation and provide you with alternate options that will later help you quickly get back on the road.

The update should reach your Android devices either now or soon, and it’ll most likely make its way to iOS at some point as well.
