Google Hangouts 5.0 update for Android could be just over the horizon
Just a couple months back, we saw Google release a significant update for its Google Hangouts app for Android, speeding things up, paring down the UI, and adding some cool Android Wear features. Now it looks like the next collection of big Hangouts improvements is nearly upon us, as sources tease the nearly-ready-to-go Hangouts 5.0 for Android.
What can you expect from Hangout 5.0? Rumored changes include some UI tweaks, the arrival of a startup splash screen, and a hell of a lot of lag reduction: we hear that users can look forward to much smoother operation when sending messages and loading conversations, and while lag on the main screen may still be present, it’s reportedly greatly reduced.
You can also look forward to improved GIF support, and the way the latest internal build has finally dropped its “dogfood” icon may suggest that Google’s nearly ready to make with a public release. As of right now, though, we haven’t seen any update incoming, and with Update Wednesday drawing to a close, we wonder if Google might be sitting on this one for just a little while longer. If not today, at least, odds sound good that this update will be on its way shortly.
