HTC schedules fall hero smartphone launch for October 20
HTC’s got some new hardware in the works, and we’ve spent the last few weeks now hearing about its plans for the One A9. Say what you may about the handset’s iPhone-inspired design, but HTC sorely needs to turn its phone sales around, and maybe that means trying something a little different (or a little more like what’s working for your peers). In any case, we’ll withhold judgment on the phone’s final look until we’re able to check it out in all its glory for ourselves – so when might that be? Today we get out best inkling yet, as HTC distributes invites for an online-only launch event.
Three weeks from today, on October 20, HTC plans to introduce some new hardware. While the invite you see up top doesn’t get too specific, the text accompanying it unambiguously refers to HTC’s “fall hero launch.” In a separate tweet, HTC’s Jeff Gordon confirms that the handset will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow when it ships.
Between the coal and the “be brilliant” tag, we assume HTC is going for some kind of diamond allusion here, though it’s not yet clear how that will work into any marketing plans.
You can see the various times things get underway around the globe above (noon Eastern), and HTC seems really interested in getting as many eyes on this new phone as possible, going out of its way to promote the live stream option. Granted, it probably won’t see the same kind of viewership as Google just enjoyed for its Nexus/Marshmallow/Chromecast event today, but we still expect a solid turnout. Check it out for yourself in three weeks, or just hit up Pocketnow for full coverage of HTC’s launch announcements.
