OnePlus planning one-hour, no-invite-needed OnePlus 2 sales

It’s been well over a month since the OnePlus 2 launched, and just about a month since orders opened, yet it’s been super-hard to get your hands on the phone. We knew that production issues were fueling delays, and today on the OnePlus message boards, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei offers his apologies for the hold-up. While the phone’s finally shipping in “meaningful quantities,” things are still very behind schedule, and in an effort to start making things right with a patient fanbase, Pei announced the company’s intent to offer a limited period of no-invite-required OnePlus 2 sales.

Full details aren’t available just yet, but here’s what we know: sometime soon, either later on in September or in the early days of October, OnePlus will sell the new OnePlus 2 to anyone who wants to buy one, regardless of whether they’ve been able to track down an invite code.

These sales will only be open for a single hour, after which point OnePlus will move right back to its invite-only system.

We’re not sure how much warning we’re going to get when the company finally sets the time, but if you’ve been looking forward to picking this hardware up, we suggest paying close attention; an offer like this isn’t likely to be back for at least another few months.
