Apple iPad mini 4 goes official: power of an iPad Air 2 in a smaller body
The new Apple iPad Pro may be the new star of the company’s tablet lineup, but it’s not the only new slate launching today. While Apple ended up glossing over it as almost an afterthrought, we’ve got a new iPad mini on its way out, as Apple refreshes its lineup with the iPad mini 4.
Simply put, the iPad mini 4 takes Apple’s iPad Air 2 hardware and crams all that into the mini’s 7.9-inch form factor. That means an upgrade to an A8 SoC, offering not just greatly improved performance, but also conservative power usage, squeezing 10 hours of use out of the tablet’s battery.
As you can see from the image below, the iPad mini 4 replaces the mini 3 in Apple’s stable of tablets, while the company retains the iPad mini 2 as a lower-cost option. Pricing for the new model begins at just about $400 for 16GB, ranging all the way up to $730 for 128GB with cellular connectivity.
