New sources back Nexus launch-date rumor: September 29

Last year, Google launched its Nexus 6 smartphone in mid-October; the year before, the Nexus 5 debuted on Halloween. But it sure sounds like Google is planning something a little different for this year’s launch, and beyond introducing a pair of Nexus smartphones, we’ve also heard that the announcement of the phones themselves could come a bit ahead of schedule. At least, a rumor landing last week suggested that the LG’s new Nexus phone could go up for sale as soon as September 29. Today we’re hearing that same date again – and this time, explicitly about both LG and Huawei Nexus phones – as new sources point to a September 29 launch announcement.

Supposedly, Google plans to introduce both new Nexus phones on September 29 at an event in San Francisco.

Beyond time and place, though, there’s not much to this report: there’s no further mention of a start-date for sales (while the Nexus 5 was available same-day, the Nexus 6 saw a two-week delay before orders opened), and there’s nothing concrete here about pricing.

So while we’re still looking forward to learning more about Google’s launch plans, this is sure shaping up to be one hell of an eventful September for smartphone fans like us.
